Our History

Our History

Catch the Fire (formerly Living Water) was planted by our visionary elders, Colorado natives, Steve and Christie Owings, in May 2004 after receiving prompting from the Lord.

Originally meeting in a hotel in Northglenn, the new congregation consisted of 3 families who brought their unsaved loved ones to meet Jesus.  Steve and Christie felt the prompting to move further north and relocated their home and the church to Frederick in the spring of 2006.

After outgrowing their living room and then their basement, the church moved to Bella Rosa golf course, then a farm property on CR 16 and then to Colorado Road (next to the high school) in May 2009.  The church has continued to grow as God has brought people through His Spirit’s prompting.  We believe that God has called us to reach every generation and anticipate that He will bring whole families together to worship and follow Him.

We desire to live scripture and be the church as God intended it to be.  We believe in the spiritual gifts (1 Cor 12, Rom 8), in the five-fold ministry (Eph 4), and that everyone is called to lead someone and use their gifts for the Kingdom.

In September 2011, Steve and Christie made their first trip to Northern Thailand — after first ministering in Adelaide, Australia — to visit A-je and Nancy Kukaewkasem at Ahka Outreach Foundation (AOF).  Since then, they have made trips to Thailand, Singapore, Myanmar, Taiwan, and Cambodia in growing frequency as God has continued to use them mightily and open more doors to minister in other surrounding areas.  There is always an open invitation to travel with them on these trips, which are always life changing, powerful experiences.  We also encourage partnering with AOF in prayer and financial support.

In February 2015, Steve and Christie were approached by then-pastor Brian Schwartz to take on Renovation Revival and Worship Center in Lafayette, CO, as another campus to Catch the Fire (formerly Living Water) as he was feeling called to pursue full-time itinerate ministry.  This was a very exciting step of growth.  In late 2015, God allowed us to purchase the building and surrounding property in Lafayette in a most miraculous way. In May 2016, to bring an even greater sense of unity and momentum to what God is doing, we brought both campuses under one roof—now known simply as Catch the Fire Boulder.

In October 2019, we have now partnered with Catch the Fire and our own branch here is Catch the Fire Boulder. We are an elder-led church, with Steve Owings serving as the visionary elder.  He, with our whole team of elders, lead the church together.  The main purpose of elders is to govern the church—setting the direction, doctrine and discipline for the body.  There is also a team of Deacons who facilitate activities and events and help serve the body.  We are a non-denominational Christian church under the covering of Catch the Fire. This means that we can solicit advice and help from Catch the Fire for all and any needs we may run into. The input and help we can get is for any part of the church, through building relationships from leaders in the same ministries across a network of churches associated with Catch the Fire at the global level. In other words, we can connect heads of ministries with the heads of the same kinds of ministries from around the world. The connections and synergy from these kinds of connections is helping us advance faster than ever before in every area
